Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam popularly knowns as A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was an aerospace scientist who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was known as the Missile Man of India.

A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 at Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. His father Jainulabdeen was a boat owner and imam of a local mosque and his mother Ashiamma was a housewife. He education at the Schwartz Higher Secondary School and went for higher studies Saint Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli, he graduated in physics in 1954 from the University of Madras. In 1955, he moved to Madras for the study of aerospace engineering in Madras Institute of Technology.  He joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organisation as a scientist. He was also part of the INCOSPAR committee working under Vikram Sarabhai and in 1969, He was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) where he was the project director of India’s first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III) which successfully deployed the Rohini satellite in near-earth orbit in July 1980. He also played major role during India’s Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, the first since the original nuclear test by India in 1974. He also served in military missile development efforts. He thus came to be known as the Missile Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic missiles and launch vehicle technology.

A. P. J. Abdul Kalam served as the 11th President of India, succeeding K. R. Narayanan. He was also fascinated for writing books and autobiography, he popular creations are Wings of Fire, India 2020, Ignited Minds, Indomitable Spirit, Transcendence: My Spiritual Experiences with Pramukh Swamiji. He was also honours with India’s highest civilian Bharat Ratna(1997). other awards are Padma Bhushan (1981),Padma Vibhushan (1990),Hoover Medal (2009), NSS Von Braun Award (2013) and many more.
