Fête de la Musique is an annual music celebration that takes place on 21 June. It is also known as Music Day, Make Music Day, or World Music Day. It is an international phenomenon, celebrated in more than 700 cities in 120 countries. The first Fête de la Musique was launched on June 21, 1982, symbolic day of the summer solstice, the longest of the year in the northern hemisphere. On this day citizens of a city or country are allowed and urged to play music outside in their neighborhoods or in public spaces and parks. The Fête de la Musique has naturally promoted visibility and access to artistic and cultural practices and demonstrates its ability to evolve and perpetuate each year.
