Biological diversity is often understood in terms of the wide variety of plants, animals and microorganisms. Biological diversity resources are the pillars upon which we build civilizations. But loss of biodiversity threatens all, including our health. Due to fastest growing civilization development often forget about Biological diversity and the number of species is being significantly reduced by certain human activities. So bring awareness about this issue, the UN decided to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity annually.
International Day for Biological Diversity :
The International Day for Biological Diversity, also known as World Biodiversity Day, sanctioned international day for the promotion of biodiversity issues celebrated under United Nations guiding principles. It is currently held on May 22 of every year. The International Day for Biological Diversity falls within the scope of the UN Post-2015 Development Agenda’s Sustainable Development Goals. This global was created in 1993, was held on December 29 to celebrate the day the Convention on Biological Diversity till 2000. Since 2000 The International Day for Biological Diversity is held on 22nd of May.
