About International Nurses Day :
is an international day observed around the world on 12 May every year, to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has celebrated this day since 1965. Firstly Dorothy Sutherland alongwith the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, proposed President Dwight D. Eisenhower to proclaim a “Nurses’ Day”, during 1953, but they didn’t get approval. But on January 1974, it was decided that on 12th May, on the birthday of Florence Nightingale(the founder of modern nursing) will be observed as International Nurses Day. Each year, ICN prepares and distributes the International Nurses’ Day Kit. As of 1998, 8 May was designated as annual National Student Nurses’ Day.
